This week Reception have been learning about minibeasts.

They have explored the text ‘The Bug Collector’ by Alex G Griffiths. This story think about the characteristics of bugs and the importance of them, the important work that they do and the importance of not keeping them locked away in a jar.

 

It supported the children in learning about life in their garden and the important jobs such a bees pollinating flowers and how clever the insects are, adapting to their environment.

The children made minibeast hotels.

 

Children have been applying their phonics knowledge and their next steps to write independently about this weeks focus.

 

  

In maths, children have been exploring the characteristics of 3D shapes. They have learned to build effectively and to identify 3D shapes in the environment, articulating how they know which shape is which.

   

Children have enjoyed creating their very own minibeasts, using folding paper techniques and other artistic medias. 

 

   

Next week, children begin to think about the life cycle of a butterfly and continue on their journey of independence, ready for year one. This week has been assessment week and the children have wowed their teachers.
